This State Government Department engaged MKDC to facilitate the design of their new offices on Adelaide Terrace in Perth. The reception, waiting area, training rooms and boardroom have all been designed to a high specification with quality finishes and detailing. It was important for these front-of-house areas to be highly sophisticated as well as functional, with the department hosting many industry leaders and international guests.
Radial sit-to-stand workstations have been configured across two levels in the open plan workspace. With an emphasis on sustainable work practices and collaboration, no offices were incorporated into the design, only media and quiet rooms and, all workstations were planned 1200mm from the perimeter to reduce energy usage. Carpet has been used as a design feature to assist with wayfinding and to delineate collaboration areas, while timber feature screens break up the open plan layout and add an element of privacy.
Filled with natural light, the staff hub is a warm and welcoming space; the timber acoustic ceiling, offset with pops of blue, yellow and green. A variety of seating allows this space to be used by large groups and individuals.
Overall the space is a successful interplay of formal front-of-house areas, combined with a collaborative and team orientated workplace and staff hub.
